Benefits
The annual review process is a powerful resource for leaders who are seeking to grow in their effectiveness. Senior leaders often falter because they lack the essential feedback needed to increase self-awareness, understand how they are being perceived, and make important and timely adjustments in the way they provide leadership to their organization. Most ministries lack a credible method for assessing and coaching their staff. Unknown or under-communicated expectations put leaders and their boards in an environment that is ripe for conflict and distrust. After assisting hundreds of ministry leaders, our staff has developed an effective web-based process that provides honest and constructive feedback, delivered in a confidential manner.
Description
Generally, it is best if a leader has completed the full assessment and coaching process before beginning the annual review process. See “Leadership Coaching Services” which is a separate service offered by the Center.
PROCESS STEPS: The Center staff will provide you with instructions and guidance during each aspect of the review process and is also available upon request to meet with leaders and/or the board.
1. An accurate job description is designed and then approved by the board. The Center staff will provide you with a guide to use when refining your job description.
2. 3-5 goals are established for the coming year based on the approved job description.
3. Mid-year review of the leader is done with two members of the Board (using the web-based self evaluation from the leader, the measurable features of the leader’s annual goals and any data available relative to the areas assigned to the leader).
4. Annual review of the leader is done with two members of the Board (using the web-based evaluation from board members, staff, and 3-4 other key voices along with the self evaluation from the leader). The complete and confidential performance ratings and narrative comments are given directly to the leader. A summary report, without the narrative comments, is sent to the board chair. Instructions and precautions are also sent to both the leader and the board chair.
5. Developmental plans and revised goals are created by the leader and submitted to the board chairman for the coming year. These goals, along with any revisions to the job description, are also sent to the Center at which time the coming year’s evaluation process is revised accordingly.
6. The Tri-Annual review is an opportunity to do an in-depth assessment of the ministry leader(s) which includes: an extensive 360 degree perception and performance feedback loop which utilizes input from 18-20 additional individuals, a self-evaluation of the board as to its performance, and a two-hour training meeting with a Center consultant.
